Oamaru defeated Union in a low scoring 20/20 final at Awamoa Park on Saturday with Union unable to score the required eight runs off the last eight balls of the match while in the playoff for third and fourth Valley flailed the Albion attack passing the Albion total of 164 with nine wickets in hand.
Union defeated Albion in the first of the semi finals. Union batting first made 136 for six in its 20 overs with Antony Cromwell top scoring with 39 while Jeremiah Shields added 30. Jeremy Smith took three for 15 for Albion. In reply Albion was dismissed in the 18th over for 100 with Darren Shillito leading the way with 22. Stu Dickinson took three for 14 for Union while Ben Cant and Phil Crossan took two wickets each.
In the second of the semi finals Valley found runs hard to come by batting first against Oamaru. Matt Pile (31) and Tom Squire (26) were the best of the Valley batsmen as the Valley innings closed at 105 for seven. Khalil took five for 17 for Oamaru.
Unbeaten innings from Jordan Horrell(53) and Glen Paterson(27) guided Oamaru to 110 for two with Horrell and Scott Wilson combining in a second wicket stand of 69.
Oamaru batted first in the final and was dismissed for what appeared to be a paltry 87 in the 17th over with Bevan Smith top scoring with 23. Dan Conlan took three for 15 and Stu Dickinson and Phil Crossan took two wickets each.
Union appeared to be cruising at 71 for three in the 16th over but four wickets fell quickly as Union slumped to 80 for seven with Union needing a run a ball for victory. Tight bowling by Khalil(three for 17) and Horrell and Paul Selbie who claimed two wickets each saw Union two runs short of victory at the end of the 20th over.
Valley made no race of it against Albion in the playoff for third and fourth. Albion made an impressive 164 for nine in its 20 overs with Brad Kernahan(27), Jeremy Smith (20) and Brent O'Connor(20) the best of the batsmen while Brad McKenzie and Aaron McKay took two wickets each.
Valley lost opening batsman, Nick Webster for 21 but Byron Neil(85 not out) and Tom Squire(42not out) saw Valley through to 167 for one in the 16th over.
