If North Otago dominated the first day South Canterbury took the honours on the second day of the Hawke Cup elimination match played in Oamaru over the weekend. North Otago's Sean Eathorne dominated North Otago's first innings with a fine innings of 121 with North Otago medium paced bowler Ben Cant returning the outstanding figures of six for 30 off 17 overs in South Canterbury's first innings chasing North Otago's first innings total of 344 after it had been sent in on Saturday by the visitors. Cant produced with the bat with 44 in an opening partnership of 63 with captain Chris Smith(23) but Eathorne added the icing batting at three while Glyn Cameron(50) and Eathorne produced a sixth wicket stand of 118. Craig Hinton and Kevin Teahen took three wickets each for South Canterbury.

South Canterbury at stumps on the first day was 86 for four but the other five wickets fell for the addition of only 31 runs with Dan Laming retiring hurt .Cant received consistent support from fellow bowler David Sewell who took three for 40.

Forced to follow on South Canterbury batted through until 6.30p.m. yesterday when the captains agreed that no result could be achieved with South Canterbury 358 for eight wickets. Apart from Davies magnificent innings Todd Elliotte celebrated his 100th game for the side with an innings of 63. Davies innings included 16 fours and four sixes.

Sewell, Cant and left arm off spinner Jordan Horrell took two wickets each in South Canterbury's second innings.
