Valley, Albion, St Kevin's All have wins

Valley retained its Borton Cup lead with a 24 run win over Union at Awamoa Park on Saturday while St Kevin's and Albion moved into second place equal with Oamaru. St Kevin's beat Waitaki Boys High School by 165 runs in a match which doubled as a Gillette Cup game while Albion beat Oamaru by 222 runs.

Union won the toss and put Valley into bat and the country side made full use of the opportunity to race through to 231 for six in its 50 overs. Valley lost early wickets to be 44 for two after 18 overs and slumped to 103 for six after 30 overs. Matt Pile(94 not out) and Geoff Mavor(48 not out added 131 in an unbeaten seventh wicket stand with Glynn Cameron taking three for 50 for Union.

Union struggled through to 76 for four after 17 overs with Duncan Drew making 20 and Ben Cant 23. The Shields brothers, Thomas(41) and Jeremiah(50) produced a seventh wicket stand of 77 before the Union innings closed at 207 in the 47th over. Hamish McKenzie took three for 45 and Geoff Mavor two for 39).

Albion won the toss and batted first and made a massive 337 before the final wicket fell in the 50th over. Darren Shillito(97) and Peter Cartwright(117) added 226 in the opening partnership and Paul O'Dell(21) and Jon Sinclair(38) added valuable runs further down the order. David Sewell took six for 46 for Oamaru including a hat trick.

Dylan Winter claimed two early wickets to have Oamaru 29 for three after seven overs and although Khalil(37) and Sewell(49) showed some stickability the side collapsed to be all out for 115 in the 25th overwinter and Ryan Walsh took three wickets each for Albion.

Batting first St Kevin's made the most of the all weather pitch to make 294 before it lost its tenth wicket in the 50th over. Jordan Bartlett(25) and Jeremy Smith(22) give the College side an encouraging start with Tom Squire adding 41. Sean Conlan took to the Waitaki attack before he was finally dismissed for 88 while Tim O'Connor chimed in with 23. Adrian Myburgh and George Inglewood took three wickets each for Waitaki with Matt Day claiming two for 35.

Myburgh(36) and Lachie Kingan(31) gave Waitaki an enterprising start but with the dismissal of this pair the side slumped to 104 for six in the 18th over and the side was dismissed for 129 in the 27th over. Leg spinner Ben Duckworth took four for 14 for St Kevin's with Tim O'Malley taking three for 22.
