Valley retained its Borton Cup lead even though it suffered a 32 run loss to Albion at Awamoa Park on Saturday. Oamaru joined Albion in second place with a 63 run win over St Kevin's College while Union kept its hopes of making the playoffs alive with a massive 209 run win over bottom team Waitaki Boys High School.

Duncan Drew(120) and Thomas Shields(104) rewrote part of the Union cricket clubs record book when the pair combined in a third wicket stand of 275, an all-time club record for any wicket and only the second time in a Union innings that two players have scored centuries in an innings.

Waitaki Boys won the toss and asked Union to bat at Milner Park. Union lost early wickets to be 71 for two after nine overs but Drew and Shields destroyed the Waitaki attack racing to 197 for two after 25 overs and 250 for two after 35 overs with the side batting out its 50 overs to be 357 for six with Jason McGimpsey the best of the Waitaki bowlers taking four for 58.

Waitaki Boys started confidently with Adrian Myburgh( 20) and Lachie Kingan(21) taking the side to 55 without loss after 12 overs. Glynn Cameron then removed the two openers with Hayden Tisdall(22) and Sean Todd(21) guiding the side to 148 before the tenth wicket fell in the 40th over. Cameron took three for 34 but the bowling performance of the day came from Drew, probably better known as a wicket keeper batsman, who off just four overs took six for seven.

Oamaru won the toss against St Kevin's and batted first. The side started slowly being 21 for one after eight overs and 68 for three after 16 overs but Scott Wilson took control to take Oamaru through to 195 for five in the 40th over with Wilson finally out for 93. Wilson received support from Nicky Johnston with 22. Glen Paterson(43) and Khalil(47 not out) saw Oamaru through to 288 for seven in the 50th over. Ben Duckworth took two for 31 for St Kevin's.

St Kevin's lost openers Chris Smith and Jordan Bartlett early to be 26 for two after six overs. Tom Squire added 21 but against the bowling of David Sewell wickets fell regularly. Tom Gourlay(35),Ben Duckworth (32), Peter O'Malley(28) and Matt Lilley(30) saw the College side through to 225 before the final wicket fell in the 41st over. Sewell finished with five for 24 and Khalil took four for 32.

A fine innings of 61 from Brad Kernahan who with Marshall Smith(62) added 107 for the fourth wicket saw Albion make 218 before the tenth wicket fell in the 40th over. Bowling for Valley Dave Simpson took four for 54, Hamish McKenzie, three for 43, and Matt Pile two for 30.

Valley lost four wickets in its first ten overs with only 50 runs on the board with Dylan Winter knocking off the top order. Nick Webster(44) held the side together and further down the order Geoff Mavor(54) and Geoff Mansfield(26) took Valley to 186 before the side was dismissed. Paul O'Dell took three for 38, Winter four for 40 and Marshall Smith two for 27.
