Eastern will meet Union in the Dick Hunt trophy final next Saturday after the southern based side defeated Valley by 29 runs at the Mill Reserve in Palmerston on Saturday. Batting first Eastern slumped to 46 for five after fifteen overs before Andrew Grubb(89) aided by George Russell(38) turned the side around to bat through its fifty overs and leave Valley a target of 190 to win. Tom Squire was the best of the Valley bowlers claiming four for 38 while Andrew Fisher chimed in with three for 36. At 83 for three after twenty three overs Valley appeared to be in with a chance with Louie Johnson unbeaten on 53 and Andrew Harding with him on 20. The dismissal of these two saw Valley dismissed for 153 with Johnson(55) and Harding(39) dominating the batting and Hamish McKenzie adding 21. Bowling for Eastern Cameron Grubb took five for 29 and Matt McLelland, three for eleven.
It was really a no contest in the Albion/Oamaru game at Centennial Park outer Oval. Oamaru won the toss and batting first managed a meagre 55 runs before the final wicket fell to the third ball of the sixteenth over. Matt Day with six for 19 off eight overs destroyed the Oamaru lineup with Brad Kernahan giving support taking three for four off nine balls.
Albion cruised through to 56 for one with both Gary Mahuika and Amir Mirza unbeaten on 20.
