Albion leapfrogged Valley to the top of the Borton Cup table with three rounds remaining before the semi finals. Albion beat Eastern by 52 runs, Union in a massive batting performance beat Oamaru/St Kevin’s College by 198 runs while Waitaki Boys High School toppled competition leaders Valley by 119 runs.

Union opener Jake Greenslade dominated the Union innings against Oamaru/SKC scoring 142 runs opening for his side at King George Park. Greenslade lost opener Glynn Cameron early in the innings but then then flayed the opposition attack before he was dismissed for 142 off 70 balls hitting 18 fours and nine sixes in an innings which lasted only 73 minutes. With Duncan Drew(87) Greenslade added 178 runs for the second wicket before Greenslade was dismissed in the twenty third over. Drew and Jeremiah Shields(41) added a further 105 for the third wicket while the Paul Johnston and Sean Conlan added 73 for the fifth wicket setting the opposition the task of scoring 372 to win in fifty overs. Determined batting from Sammy Havea(43), Regan George(33) and Matt Brien(23) only delayed the inevitable as Oamaru/St Kevin’s was dismissed for 173.

Waitaki Boys High School produced the upset of the round defeating leaders Valley. Batting first Harvey Lowe (81) and Stephan Grobler(46) gave the school side a good base before the innings closed at 214.Francois Mostert took four for 34 and Sean Todd, three for 53 for Valley. A superb bowling effort from Nathan Smith saw Valley dismissed for 95 with Smith claiming seven for 21 and Lachie Kingan(23) topscoring for Valley.

Mainly due to some solid batting down the order from Ricky Whyte(29 not out) and and injured Gary Mahuika(26) albion made 157 batting first against Eastern. Only Andrew Grubb(59) showed any real resistance as Eastern slumped to be dismissed for 105 with Paul Odell taking three for 15 and Matt Day and Jeremy Smith taking two wickets each
