Union is the only unbeaten team in Borton Cup cricket after the playing of the third round on Saturday when it defeated Oamaru/St Kevin’s College by 103 runs while Albion handed Waitaki Boys High School its first loss of the season with a forty two run win .
Union batted first against Oamaru as the two clubs began their second hundred years of competition at King George Park. Union won the initial encounter on November 11th, 1915 by more than two hundred runs. Union made 218 before the final wicket fell in the forty ninth over. Jake Greenslade hit out lustily for 45 while Glynn Cameron and Brad Fleming both added thirty five with Matt Lilley unbeaten on 41. Bowling for Oamaru/SKC Ben Cant took three for 40, Brady Kingan three for 33 and Jordan Horrell three for 14.
Jordan Bartlett(28) gave Oamaru/SKC a solid start but only Jordan Horrell(34) showed any resistance as the side was dismissed for 115. Dan Conlan returned the excellent figures of five for 49 while Matt Lilley claimed two for 50, Glynn Cameron cleaned up the tail taking two wickets from five balls.
Waitaki Boys dropped its first game of the season when it was beaten by Albion forty two runs at Centennial Park. Batting first Albion made 213 for seven in its fifty overs with Jeremy Smith producing a disciplined unbeaten 72 with Dylan Winter the best of the rest with 28. Nathan Smith and Haydon Creedy took two for 38 and two for 44 respectively. Only Stephan Grobler(48) and Smith(34) showed any resistance as Waitaki Boys was ousted for 171 with Ricky Whyte taking five for 33 and Matt Day, two for 47.
