Waitaki Boys High School first X1 remains the only unbeaten team in Borton Cup cricket after the playing of the third round on Saturday while Oamaru/St Kevin's College had its first win of the season beating Valley by ten runs at Centennial Park.
Batting first at King George Park Waitaki Boys mainly due to a third wicket stand of 133 between Francois Mostert (71) and Nathan Smith (56) which was backed up by some lusty lower order hitting from Scott Kitto (31 not out) set Union the task of scoring 207 for its third win of the season. Bowling for Union in the Waitaki innings Duncan Drew took three for 36 and Paul Johnston, four for 36. Opener Drew (63 not out) gave Union a solid start but after twenty five of the fifty overs was 60 for three. The arrival of Mostert with the ball slowed the Union batting rate and after only four over he had the figures of one for none. Drew batted on to be finally out for 62 before the final Union wicket fell at 171.Bowling for Waitaki Boys Blake James took three for 46 and Scott Kitto three for 23.
Batting first against Valley, Oamaru/St Kevin's James Mallinson gave the side a fine start with a hard hit 25 and with Craig Smith chiming in with 39, the side went to 109 for four after twenty-five overs. But the last six wickets fell for the addition of only forty three runs with Matt Murphy adding an invaluable 23. Bowling for Valley Cameron Grubb took three for 30, Reuben Simpson, three for 39, Dallas Mahuika, two for 33 and Stefan Mavor, two for 32. Mahuika(24) and Zach Maldnett (32) saw Valley through to 128 for eight after forty overs. The Bowling for Oamaru/St Kevin's Craig Smith took four for 15, Matt Murphy, two for 33 and Matt Brien, two for 19.
