Batsmen dominated Dick Hunt trophy cricket in Oamaru on Saturday with Oamaru's Regan George unbeaten on 139 at the conclusion of the Oamaru innings against Valley while Union's Thomas Shields on 117 played on to be dismissed.

George's innings was not sufficient to give Oamaru a win over Valley which got home by five wickets while Union defeated Albion by three wickets.

Oamaru won the toss against Valley at Weston and decided to bat first but a good spell of bowling from Valley's Tom Squire who took two for nine off his first four overs saw Oamaru 30 for three after eight overs .George resurrected the innings as Oamaru went through to 243 for six in its 50 overs with Khalil giving support with 28. Squire finished with three for 35 and Hamish McKenzie claimed two for 51.

Valley started poorly losing the first two wickets for the addition of only 26 runs in the first ten overs but a solid 40 from Neil Gilbert got the side back on track and with Nick Webster anchoring the innings with a fine 88 and Darcy Smith unbeaten on 34, Valley passed the Oamaru total in the 46th over. Paul Selbie took two for 44 and Richard Turner, two for 33.

Union won the toss against Albion and put Albion in to bat at King George Park. Albion started brightly being 29 for two after just six overs with Darren Shillito producing a sound 49 as Albion went through to 152 for five after 29 overs. Dylan Winter took the long handle to the Union attack before being dismissed for 93 while Jeremy Smith added 35 before the Albion innings closed in the 45th over at 260. Dan Conlan took three for 45,Paul Stratton, two for 47 and Glynn Cameron, three for44.

Union made a fine start racing through to 76 for one after 16 overs but the next 90 runs saw the loss of four wickets as Thomas Shields held the side together with his century. Todd Sidon added 22 and Ryan Whitburn was left unbeaten on 30 as Union made 244 for five to claim the points. Ricky Whyte took two for 34 for Albion and Sam Pringle, three for 50.
