Jeremiah Shields in action against Canterbury Country in the Hawke Cup Challenge
Friday, 23 March 1928

The representative cricket match, Otago v. North Otago, commenced this morning at King George's Park, there being a moderate attendance of spectators. The weather was dull, but fine and the wicket was dead and the outfield slow. Neither side was at full strength. Otago batted first and complied the modest tally of 153, Inder, Hodge and McDonald bowling very well for the home side. The best strikes for Otago were those of Cavanagh (36), Matheson (41), and McGregor (52 not out). None of the other batsmen was comfortable. The fielding of North Otago was good, Robertson being in particularly good form.
