Waitaki Boys High School retained its second place in Borton Cup cricket when it chased down Oamaru’s 242 to win by three wickets at Milner Park on Saturday. Batting first Oamaru made 242 for six with Francois Mostert unbeaten on 128.Matt Murphy added 24 as Oamaru batted through its fifty overs. Bowling for Waitaki Boys Stephan Grobler took two for 27. Grobler ‘s 42 gave Waitaki a solid start and supportive innings from Troy Looms(56), Josh Hayward(36) and Matt Munro(30) saw Waitaki pass the target in the 47th over. Bowling for Oamaru Mostert took two for 25 and Josh Gutsell, two for 40.
Albion beat St Kevin’s College by nine wickets at St Kevin’s top ground. Batting first the College side was dismissed for 88 with only Brodie Flannery(27 not out) and Ben Cant (22) showing any resistance. Bowling for Albion Paul Odell claimed six for 17 off nine overs and Ricky Whyte took three for 30.
Steve Halliwell(48 not out) and Jeremy Smith(22 not out) combined in an unbeaten second wicket stand of 43 to pass the St Kevin’s total.
Unfortunately Eastern won by default from Valley in the other senior game
In senior reserve cricket Eastern beat Eastern Colts at Waikouaiti by seven wickets. Colts batted first and made 129 with Liam Dodd(24) and Bob Martin(29) the pick of the batsmen while bowling for Eastern Scott McKenzie took four for 21 and Tom Dempster,two for 20. Eastern SR passed the total with seven wickets in hand. Murray Dempster made 65 not out and Mick O’Connell, 37.
