Unbeaten Albion defeated Oamaru to qualify for the Dick Hunt final in a fortnight, while Union defeated Glenavy in the penultimate round of the Dick Hunt Rosebowl holiday competition.
Campbell Fowler got Albion of to a fast start, scoring 35 runs in 15 balls at the top of the innings. First drop Ravi Lalia (25) and Aneesh Bose (39) then provided some solid contributions in the order as they reached 166/6 in their allocated 20 overs. Spinner Kuljeet Singh (2-20) was the best of the Oamaru bowlers, while he was backed up by Lachlan Brookes (2-26).
In its chase despite 37 from opener Sabareesh Ramesh and 24 from Brookes, Oamaru fell short by 17 runs of the required target, finishing with 150/7 of their 20 overs. Tom Square picked up 3-26 of his four overs, and Jaden Dowling 2-22 of his three.
At Glenvay, Union batted first and posted 151/8 of their 20 overs. They were led by Blake Martin’s unbeaten 37 (including 18 runs in the 20th over), while openers Thomas Anderson (35) and Thomas Shields (23) got their side of to a good start at the start of the innings. For Glenavy, Stafford Adams took 3-20 of three, Hamish McCulloch 2-17 of four, and Kurt Thomas 2-18).
Glenavy in its chase fell short, all out for 122 in the 19th over. McCulloch top scored with 27, while Matt Tangney got 24 and Jordan Mulligan 22. The wickets were shared amongst the Union bowlers, Blake White taking 2-23 of four, Riley Rooney 2-32 of four and Blake Martin 2-16 of two.
The match of the final round to be played later this week will be Oamaru against Union at King George Park. Whoever wins this match will play Albion in the final the following Friday.
