Glenavy joined St Kevins and Oamaru at the top of the table defeating Waitaki Boys by three wickets in a low-scoring game at Milner Park.
Batting first Waitaki only managed 84 in 33 overs with Joshua Miller top-scoring with 22. Jordan Milligan took 4-14 and Kurt Thomas 3-21.
Glenavy took 42.5 overs and 7 wickets to chase 85 for victory in difficult batting conditions. Billy Wilson took 3-15 of 10 overs and Hunter Wardle 3-15 of 10 overs.
The other two games were higher scoring.
Oamaru in its first defence of the Payne Tempero batted first reaching 252 all out on the last ball of their 50 overs. Lachlan Brooks, top scoring with 90, combined with Nick Johnston (74) putting on 99 for the second wicket. Opener Quinn Wardle made 24. Aneesh Bose took 5-61, Hayden Creedy 2-32 and Ravi Lalia 2-42.
Albion fought to keep itself in the match but losing wickets when partnerships were starting to make some headway hampered their chase. Albert Francis made 44, Jacob Davies 39, Sabereesh Ramesh 34 and Bose 34. Albion all out for 195 in the 40th over. Stephan Grobler took 3-15 of 10 overs and Bradley Flint took 3-48 of 10 overs.
At King George Park Valley batted first and was bowled all out for 200 in the 48th over. Cameron Grubb top scored with 40, Shannon Dunnett 26, Liam Mavor 22 and Geoff Mavor 20. Valley’s last four wickets put on 89 runs. For Union Scott Kitto took 3-26, Blake James 2-24, Brad Fleming 2-25 and Blake Martin 2-38.
Losing three early wickets, Kitto 34 and James 91no then combined to put on 80 runs for the 4th wicket. They lost the further wicket of Martin for 25, before reaching 201/5 in the 36th over. Liam Mavor took 3-55.
