Borton Cup leader Albion will meet Union in the senior cricket final after it defeated Oamaru by 55 runs at Awamoa Park on Saturday. Union was too strong for Waitaki Boys' High School, winning by eight wickets at King George Park.

Albion won the toss and decided to bat first on a low, slow Awamoa Park pitch, not assisted by a sluggish outfield. Albion started badly and after nine overs was 16/2.

Peter Cartwright and Brad Kernahan staged a minor revival but a 60-run partnership between Paul Odell (43) and Gareth Duncan (27) saw Albion through to 135 before the final wicket fell.

Paul Selbie playing in his 41st season of senior club cricket took three for 26 with his off spin while Gary Clearwater finished with three for 37. Josh Gutsell claimed two for 21.

Oamaru slumped to 57 for six with Regan George holding the side together with 23, but inevitably the final wicket fell with the total at 80 in the 23rd over. Ricky Whyte took six for 18 off six overs and Kernahan three for 23 off his 10 over spell.

Union gave Waitaki Boys' first use of the pitch, and the school side, at 56 for one after 16 overs, looked set for a reasonable total.

But the fall of player-coach Sean Eathorne for 26 saw the slide begin, with the team dismissed in the 28th over for 105. Glynn Cameron took six for 40 and Duncan Drew three for two off four overs.

Union started brightly with Antony Cromwell (28) and Jeremiah Shields (37 not out) guiding Union through to 106 for two in the 23rd over.
