New Zealand Colts, batting first against North Otago eleven at Oamaru today, had lost two wickets for 156 runs at the luncheon adjournment.

The wicket on the Waitaki Boy's High School ground was in first-class order and looked full of runs. The outfield was very fast.

The Colts batsmen looked competent rather than brilliant and were assisted by weak ground fielding and poor catching by the North Otago side, at least four chances going to the ground off the medium pace bowlers during the morning the morning's play.

However, Wellington's G.P. Bilby blossomed out after reaching his half-century and looked a much more attractive batsmen.

Another Otago batsman, P. Semple, hit hard all round the wicket for his 43.

After lunch Bilby went quickly on to his century with some crisp shots, but both he and Campbell were then tied down by Cartwright and Elllis. The former eventually took Bilby's wicket. After Campbell's dismissal, the game slowed down considerably and at 3.30 p.m. N.Z. Colts had eight wickets down for 223.
