N. Otago Cricket: Wanderers XI In Strong Position

In the first day of the match against North Otago played at Awamoa Park yesterday, the New Zealand Universities Wanderers XI were in a strong position after a fine unbeaten innings of 113 by D.R. McInnes.

In reply to North Otago's first innings total of 139, the students were 207 for four wickets when stumps were drawn.

The home side struggled against accurate medium-paced bowling by R.H. Ellis and G.B. Wain. B.R. Papps batted patiently for 31 and R. Grant (33), showed some aggression despite tight off-spin bowling from J.B. Walsh.

McInne's innings for the Wanderers was one of watchful aggression. He hit 15 4's and one 6. With A.L. Andrew (30 not out) the partnership scored at more than a run a minutes to post an unbeaten stand of 59 for the fifth wicket.
