A good bowling burst by M. Sandri when he sent Metropolitan's overnight score of 193 for six wickets to 200 for eight, set the town team back on its heels on the Logan Park wicket.
G. Anderson with an aggressive 16 runs, helped the side to pass North Otago's first innings score of 234 and take the total to 243 before he well bowled by leg-spinner J. Wilson.
Meanwhile, Sutcliffe was picking up runs with seeming ease, and when E.J. Stephenson came in both batsmen hammered the bowling. Stephenson rocketed on 22 runs before the innings was declared closed at 273 for nine wickets.
During the onslaught, D Malloch (North Otago) had the misfortune to be struck on the face by a ball pulled hard by Stephenson. He suffered a severe cut round an eye and was later admitted to hospital under observation.
Sandri bowled with plenty of fire yesterday and had the respect of the batsmen until Stephenson took the long handle to the bowling. Wilson bowled his leg-spinners with much more accuracy than he did on the first day and was rewarded with a wicket.
North Otago lost W. Kerr in the opening overs of its second innings but when play ended the score was 24 without loss. Wilson and R. Taiaroa, the not out batsmen, were going along steadily.
