Rain forced two of three Borton Cup matches to be abandoned mid-afternoon in the final round of qualifying play prior to the semi-finals next week.

Union finished top qualifier when it beat St Kevin's College by 10 wickets after all games had been transferred to all-weather pitches after rain overnight.

St Kevin's was sent in to bat by Union and was bundled out for 45 in 18.5 overs, with Union captain Paul Johnston leading the way, taking four for four. This included a hat trick with his last three balls. Matt Cutt gave support with three for 12 off six overs.

Union raced through to 46 without los in 8.3 overs as the rain arrived. Andy McCulloch was unbeaten on 28.

When rain halted play in the other matches, Valley was 132 for two batting first against Waitaki Boys High School with Byron Neil top scoring with 67, while Oamaru was 136 for three against Albion when play was called off.
Union picked up a maximum 10 points to finish with 80 points. The four teams in the two abandoned matches received four points each.

The other three qualifiers for next weekend' semi-finals were Oamaru (79), Albion (69) and Valley (39).

In the semi-finals, Union will play Valley at King George Park and Oamaru will host Albion at Whitestone Contracting Stadium no 2.
