The weather played a major role in the Dick Hunt trophy final played at Whitestone stadium on Saturday between top qualifiers Oamaru and Union. Union won the toss and put Oamaru in to bat, a decision which appeared to bear fruit with the Union bowlers dominating having Oamaru 32 for three after 11 overs. Only Anthony Sewell showed any stickability batting at three as he top scored with 36 as wickets fell regularly to see Oamaru 113 for nine with three overs remaining. Steady rain forced players off the field at that stage with Chris Ware and Phil Crossan having taken two wickets each for Union. Play finally got under way at 5.45p.m. five minutes before the required time with Union given the amended total of scoring 57 runs off 21 overs. Jeremiah Shield hit out as rain threatened again for 15 which included three fours after he had lost partner Antony Cromwell(0) in the second over. Rain once again forced a permanent cessation of play after four overs with Union 17 for two and veteran Paul Selbie taking two for one off two overs. Oamaru as top qualifier was awarded the trophy when play was eventually abandoned.

In the second grade final Valley defeated Oamaru by 78 runs with Tom Squire top scoring for Valley with 62.
