There was an exciting start to the Dick Hunt Rosebowl competition on Friday night.

The Oamaru President’s XI batted first against Union and reached 110 from its 20 overs.

Sabareesh Ramesh top-scored with 35 from 31 balls and Quinn Wardle notched up 21 from 19.

Gary Singh (three for 19) and Blake Martin (two for 14) were the best of the Union bowlers.

Union overhauled the target with five wickets and three overs to spare.

Jeremiah Shields made 29 and Kane Mclauchlan 41 to ensure the result went in Union’s favour.

For the President’s XI, Kuljeet Singh (two for 12) and Hunter Wardle (two for 31) were the pick of the bowlers.

Valley batted first against Glenavy and made 168 for five.

George Eldridge scored 69, Eli Johnson 35 and Lachlan Kingan 24.

Zach Graham took two for 41 from four overs.

With 39 runs required from 12 balls, Ethan Booth hit six sixes, including 26 runs in the final over.

Glenavy won by four wickets with a ball to spare.

Booth scored 98, while Jackson Henshaw made 26.

George Mavor (two for 43) and Jake Matthews (two for 22) took two wickets each.

Albion batted first against the Oamaru Coach’s XI, making 186.

The innings was dominated by Jonty Naylor with 70 from 44 and Amal Asok with 80 from 32.

Nick Johnston (five for 16) and Stephan Grobler (three for 22) restricted Albion after it looked to have 200 in its sights.

Youngster Lachlan Brookes took two for 42 off four overs.

The Coach’s XI had a slow start. But Regan George whacked 62 from 28 and combined with Johnston (69 from 49) to help it come back into the game.

The Coach’s XI needed 12 from the final over and managed 11, the game ending in a tie.

Jacob Fowler took two for 20 from four overs.

Union 112/5 (K. Mclauchlan 41, J. Shields 29, K. Singh 2-12, Hunter Wardle 2-31) defeated Oamaru Presidents XI 110/8 (S. Ramesh 35, Q. Wardle 21, G. Singh 3-19, B. Martin 2-14) by 5 wickets.

Glenavy 171/6 (E. Booth 98*, J. Henshaw 26, J. Mathews 2-22, G. Mavor 2-43) defeated Valley 168/5 (G. Eldridge 69, E. Johnson 35, L. Kingan 24, Z. Graham 2-41) by 4 wickets.

Albion 186/10 (A. Asok 80, J. Naylor 70, N. Johnston 5-16, S. Grobler 3-22, L. Brookes 2-42) tied Oamaru Coaches XI 186/5 (N. Johnston 69k, R. George 62, J. Fowler 2-20).
