Union Continues Lead

Union continues to lead the Dick Hunt Rosebowl competition defeating the Oamaru Coaches XI by 97 runs, Albion had a comfortable win over Glenavy while Valley had a win beating the Oamaru Presidents XI.

Batting first Union reached 191/6 in their twenty overs, Jesse Valpy top scoring with 83 not out and being well supported by Blake Martin 56, the pair putting on 112 for the 6th wicket. Robbie Breen was the pick of the Coaches XI taking 2-18 of four overs.

Losing a number of wickets early in the innings, the Coaches XI struggled in their chase and at the completion of their 20 overs had managed 94/9. Patrick Hewett top scored with 22. For Union Blake James took 3-25, and Matt Lilley 2-16.

Albion won the toss and batted first against Glenavy recording 173/4 of their 20 overs. Amal Asok reached 85, while Tarras Beardsmore at the top of the order got 25.

Glenavy hopes were effectively gone with the score at 26-5 in the 7th over, and when their 20 overs were completed, they had 88/9 on the board. Glynn Cameron 32 and Stafford Adams 22 were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Aneesh Kumar 3-15 and Hayden Creedy 2-17 were the best of the Albion bowlers.

In the other game played, Valley defeated the Presidents XI in a high scoring game. Unfortunately, the scorecard wasn’t available.

Two further rounds will be played this coming weekend, before the final the following Friday.
