With the Otago Volts selectors looking for more game time for some of their squad members, Sean joined the North Otago side at the start of the 2009/10 season along with Darren Broom. A member of the New Zealand under 19 side a few seasons earlier, Sean had found limited opportunities at first class level but had been a long time member of the Volts squad.
He made an immediate impact. In his debut match he joined Simon Butler and Joseph Gosano as the only players to make a century on debut for North Otago, when in the southern zone match against Mid Canterbury he scored 158 not out in a high scoring first innings victory. This was the start of a great run of form with the bat as he scored 351 runs at an incredible average of 175 in the zone fixtures, helping North Otago to its first Hawke Cup challenge in 8 years.
Sean returned the following season to play for North Otago, this time as a player/coach employed by the association and joining the Waitaki Boys High School 1st XI in club matches. The Waitaki side had struggled in previous seasons; the 2009/10 season saw no wins during the entire season and included some heavy losses. Along with Sean was Englishman Matt Machan and the two turned the team's fortunes around. Sean scored 891 runs for the school side, easily being the highest run scorer in club cricket for the season turning them into a very competitive unit and single handily moving them into the Borton Cup semi-finals. Included in his 891 was four centuries, along with a score of 191 against St Kevin's, believed to be the highest score in a senior one day match in North Otago club cricket.
With Englishman Chris Smith not returning for the 2010/11 season, he was selected as captain of the North Otago Hawke Cup team in its most important season for a number of years. As the Hawke Cup was won the previous season, there were the regular zone fixtures and then its first Hawke Cup defence. In the first zone fixture of the season he equalled an 83 year old record when he scored his third century for North Otago pulling alongside Carl Zimmerman for most centuries in a career for North Otago. His final score of 172 in that game also saw him equal the record for highest score for a batsman, equalling Ash Flannery's score from 21 years earlier ironically against the same opposition - South Canterbury. For the rest of the Hawke Cup matches Sean found himself as a key member of the side as the captain, wicketkeeper and an important part of the batting order.
Sean's third season in North Otago colours was cut short as work opportunities meant a move to the North Island. He still had time for one last game for his adopted province, against South Canterbury. In a typically free-flowing stroke filled innings, he scored 30 with his final turn at bat at a run a ball, and with 6 fours. (27 June 2012)
